The Department of Labor and Employment-ARMM releases the listings of SPES Beneficiaries for 2014. The Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) is conducted annually particularly during summer vacation to help poor but deserving high school and college students all over the ARMM areas to pursue their education. This year alone, DOLE-ARMM has allocated 6 Million Pesos for the said program. A total of 2,543 beneficiaries were selected from five (5) provinces and two (2) cities of the ARMM. Every beneficiary will receive a daily minimum wage of P250.00 per day for the duration of 22 working days which will commence on April 14, 2014. 60% of the said daily minimum wage will be shouldered by sponsoring establishment or office and 40% is to be paid by DOLE-ARMM.
DOLE-ARMM has received 8,066 applications but only 31.5% more or less will be accommodated to the program. Every province of the ARMM is given a slot of 450 Beneficiaries which equally distributed to their respective municipalities, and 293 Beneficiaries for the Regional Office in Cotabato City. Sulu has the most application received with 1,703 applicants followed by Basilan with 1,222 applicants. Regional Office received 719 applications, Lanao with 482 applications and Tawi-Tawi with 549 applications (Maguindanao has not yet submitted official no. of applicants).
Secretary Jakilan said, almost all applicants are qualified for the program but due to limited slot for every province they will be raffled in order to be included in the program. To avoid biases and to give equal chances to all applicants, Secretary Jakilan personally supervises the conduct of raffles of the name of the applicants witnessed by DOLE-ARMM Staffs.
